Access College of Engineering File Storage on Linux

The following procedure will help you get connected to the File Shared for your home directory or research storage.

CentOS 7 & Ubuntu 18.04+

  1. Open the file explorer and click on “+ Other Locations” on the left-hand side menu

  2. On the bottom of the page, click on the text box reading “Enter server address…”  next to “connect to server” and enter: smb://coe-fs.engr.tamu.edu/<share>

    1. If you are mounting your home directory, replace <share> with ugrads, grads, faculty, or staff depending on your classification. For research drives, research.

  3. Press the enter key

    1. You’ll be presented with an authentication window. 

    2. Select “Registered user” 

    3. Enter your NetID in the username field

    4. Enter “AUTH” in the domain field

    5. Enter your NetID password 

  4. Your directory will be mounted and opened automatically. You can access from the sidebar of the file explorer or from the terminal at /run/user/<your UIN>/gvfs/smb-share:*
